The military campaign conducted by Juan I of Castile in Portugal, which would take the Lusitanian throne through the rights of his wife, the young Princess Beatrice, besides being a resounding disaster from a military point of view, meant a weakening Castilian military power. These circumstances would be taken advantage of by the new Portuguese king, John of Avís, to project a series of attacks on the Castilian territory. In this sense, the Luso-Extremaduran frontier was one of the geographical areas most affected by these military actions, which, moreover, shows us the situation of ongoing military violence that both kingdoms experienced during the late Middle Ages.
